Completely revised, modern User Interface
Completely New User Interface
MPDS4 and MEDUSA4 R6 is the latest generation of the worldwide used plant, factory planning and CAD software. It comes with a completely revamped modern user interface. CAD Schroer has collected user feedback over the years and analysed it carefully. The result is a clearly structured modern user interface with a Ribbon menu and a context-sensitive dashboard that provides the user with an even faster access to the clearly structured functions. When designing the new interface special emphasis was given to new users, to make an easy transition to the software. All dialogs and features have been further revised to make access to them simpler as well as more user-friendly.
The ribbon menu has proved itself in many diverse applications within the software world; for that reason CAD Schroer has now implemented a ribbon interface for MEDUSA4 R6. The new user interface is much simpler and hence more intuitive; existing users will notice the difference immediately. Navigation is easy because the functions are structured clearly and divided into context-sensitive groups. The re-design took into account that the path to click through to individual functions could be shortened; drawings can now be created even faster as a result. Users can customize the ribbon menu in MEDUSA4 R6 via an easy-to-use dialog-box. They can move individual icons around and create completely new function groups. CAD Schroer has also fundamentally overhauled the Icon-Design, making the function’s meaning instantly recognisable from the icon.
As one of the most popular and productive mechanisms in our systems we have continuously developed the dashboard. It was once again completely overhauled for the new generation MEDUSA4 R6. Not only does it now have a permanent position on the left side of the application, it also includes all the properties and functions that are context specific to the current task. When drawing the dashboard displays all the relevant information, such as properties for the drawing sheet or for lines, texts, dimensioning, and symbols. Users can also edit the context sensitive tools and the associated function groups on the dashboard; they can add new functions, hide existing functions and even create new groups.
Windows File Manager
From MEDUSA4 R6 onwards, opening and saving of drawings and other file data is via the Windows standard file manager. Multiple files can now be opened simultaneously. Individual users can create their project file locations as a link in their explorer favourites and system administrators can manage access rights easily via Windows. Additionally, individual drawings can be previewed, with variable image size; either through the Windows file manager or directly via the Windows explorer.
Catalog and Symbol Browser
The new MEDUSA4 R6 includes a total re-design of the catalog and symbol browser. In the new browser, users have a precise overview of the symbol catalogs and standards used. When selecting a catalog the symbol browser preview window now graphically displays all the available symbols. If a specific part of the catalog is selected, only the appropriate symbols will be automatically retrieved and the relevant symbol preview will be displayed. Symbols can thus be easily searched, the required element chosen and placed in a drawing. The preview size of individual elements can be scaled dynamically. The selection facility previously available continues to be at the user’s disposal.
In addition to the normal menus, MEDUSA4 R6 now also offers users a menu that is optimized for tablets. It consists of a configurable area where individual functions can be placed by drag and drop, in the form of various sized icons. The tablet menu was designed for touchscreens and tablets, but it can also be used as a dialog box on a second monitor.
In Sheet Graphics toolbars
To reduce cursor movements to a minimum, and to ensure there are no functions duplicated in ribbons or the dashboard we have added two In-Sheet Graphics toolbars. These tool bars, are translucent, unless the cursor is over them, contain the most commonly used viewing tools, selection filters and sheet navigation tools.
Backstage area, Options dialog and administration
In the style of software with a ribbon we have gathered together all of the common functions into a single “Backstage” area. Not only “Save” and “Save As”, but license management, Options dialog and printing.
User Interface customisation
The new user interface is completely customisable at three levels. A user can show / hide / change button size of tools in the ribbon of dashboard. A user can also copy buttons to the tablet or shortcut area. A single command returns the interface to the start-up state. Administrators can manipulate buttons, groups and even ribbons to create an optimal company or department user interface. Dialogs can now be created using the industry standard GUI tool – Qt Designer
Optimized for modern screens
The new MEDUSA4 R6 user interface has been optimized for every common resolution used in modern screens, including the most common screen resolutions for laptops. The ribbon menu can be minimized to create extra space for the drawing area. The icons come in three different sizes, so they can be made larger or smaller as needed. The individual dialog boxes, such as the dashboard, the symbol manager, and the structure tree, can be detached from the user interface to free-up extra space for the drawing area, for example by moving them to a second monitor.
New and future-oriented: MEDUSA4 in the Cloud
With the new generation of MEDUSA4, the files can be completely managed in the cloud. In the current version, the cloud services Dropbox, Google DriveTM and Microsoft® OneDrive® are supported. This integration offers MEDUSA4 maximum flexibility for data management and data exchange. Individual files can be securely stored online in the cloud and are enabled by the collaboration capabilities of each service for other users.
New: Sending Drawings as e-mail
In the new version of MEDUSA4, a drawing can be shipped as an email directly by pressing a single button. For this purpose, a new e-mail is automatically opened in the users default e-mail client and the drawings of MEDUSA4 attached to the email. This speeds MEDUSA4 communication and forwarding of CAD data to colleagues and clients.
New: Import of DGN Drawings
The new version of MEDUSA4 has a new DGN interface for direct import of DGN 2D drawings. This format is especially popular in the Plant design market and a direct interface has considerable benefits.
New: Floating Input Dialogs
In the new version of MEDUSA4 some input dialogs, e.g. length, height, width, or the radius of a geometry float directly on the cursor. Thus they are always easily visible and accessible to the user. All numeric inputs now offer the additional option of calculating values by entering formulas.
New: QR Codes
MEDUSA4 R6 allows text, web addresses and other information concerning the drawing to be saved as QR (quick response) codes in the drawing. These can be edited quickly and easily by double-clicking on the QR code. This makes the drawing even more informative, and lets you encode the associated websites and information as a QR code.
New: Locked groups and symbols
MEDUSA4 R6 allows individual groups and symbols on the dashboard to be locked so that the entire group is automatically selected, rather than selecting individual geometries. Loaded group symbols are automatically locked in MEDUSA4 R6, and must be unlocked in order to edit them on the dashboard
Useful line styles, text styles and symbols can now be saved as shortcuts in MEDUSA4 R6. As a result, the individual styles and symbols can be accessed quickly from the corresponding dashboard without configuring them in advance.
Update of the DIN EN ISO 10628 Standard to the 2013-04 Version
The new MEDUSA4 R6 comes with the updated DIN EN ISO 10628 as per the 2013-04 version. It contains all the symbols in accordance with the current standard. The old version of the DIN EN ISO 10628 symbol catalog is, of course, still available to the user.
Language–independent Symbol Properties
In MEDUSA4 R6 the properties for individual symbols and whole diagrams have been designed to be language independent. This means that when switching between languages in the project configuration mode, the property descriptions change accordingly, irrespective of the language used to create the diagram.
Enhanced Options for Crossing Pipelines
In MEDUSA4 R6 processing of lines which cross in diagrams has been optimised. The user now has various options to display them as gaps or curves. Priority over which line types show the break can also be configured. multiple crossovers can be changed to the desired configuration by a single mouse click.
Reports available in PDF, XLS, RTF or HTML formats
With MEDUSA4 R6 report formats have been extensively extended. In MEDUSA4 reports can now be generated in PDF, XLS, RTF, HTML as well as CSV formats. Also the format of individual reports can be customised for individual organisations. The option to create reports as tables on drawings and to preview in a dialog are, of course, also still available.
New Symbol Property Tables
This new function has been added in MEDUSA4 R6 to allow the generation of symbol property tables. Tables connected to the symbols can now be placed onto the diagram sheet. These tables contain the attribute values of the associated symbols. If the attributed values are changed, the values in the associated tables change automatically. Individual tables can be configured and can be adapted to respective corporate standards.
The user interface for MEDInfo Web – the web interface of MEDUSA4’s information and document management system – has also been optimized along with the MEDUSA4 R6 user interface. The web interface now offers a more modern, simplified, way to access individual documents and their data.
Viewing more detailed Data and Attributes
As an extensive 3D system for reviewing current planning data, MPDS4 REVIEW features tools for measuring and viewing detailed data and the attributes of individual components. With the new version, the software now includes the option of viewing even more detailed data and attributes of individual components during the planning phase.
New: 3D Point Clouds
In the new version, the previously supported HSF and MOD formats have now been supplemented by additional formats which extend our 3D viewing possibilities. The new supported standard formats are HMF, STL and VRML. In addition, 3D point clouds in OOC format are supported, as well as plant planning data in the proprietary DGN® and new plant interchange ISO 15926 XML format. As a result, MPDS4 REVIEW has become a comprehensive 3D reviewing tool for plant and factory planning data from a wide range of systems and planning tools
