Garry Santiero founded his company in May 2004 in order to provide personal, high quality support to the South African MEDUSA customer base, which he had worked with for many years. Passionate about the product, he joined forces with CAD Schroer by becoming a CSG Value Added Reseller. Garry and colleagues now hope to grow the business in South Africa in partnership with CSG.
The company’s offices are based in Benoni, a city located very close to the Oliver Tambo International Airport, and approximately 30 km from Johannesburg. Garry Santiero’s clients include local small to medium sized engineering companies, as well as larger, well-known international engineering firms with offices nearby. Because its customers are locally based and easily accessible, the company can offer a high quality service with quick response times.

An Interview with Garry Santiero

Question:What is your personal background, and how did you become involved in the MCAD business?
Answer
:My background is in mechanical engineering. I started working with MEDUSA rev 6 on a Unix system in about 1989, progressing through all the different revisions of the product. My design work included everything from electric motors to military vehicles, ambulances, buses and trucks, to metal grids for factory layouts. I have also used a number of other MCAD tools (CADDS® 5, Pro/ENGINEER®, Pro/INTRALINK® etc.) in conjunction with MEDUSA. It has been exciting to see the product progression, and I look forward to seeing how it develops in the future.
Question:
How long have you been a CSG partner, and why did you decide to become one of their resellers?
Answer:
We have only been a CSG partner since May 2004, but have been closely associated with them since CSG took over the MEDUSA software from PTC® in 2001. Obviously, the partnership is key to this business, as it allows us to offer products and support to our existing customer base, and gives CSG a competent, local representative, which is very important to them too.

Question:
Who are your customers, and what issues do they have in common?
Answer:
All my customers are in the engineering field. I guess what they actually have in common is that they are all rather unique in their field, and therefore have unique challenges. MEDUSA stands out through its flexibility, customisability, and automation – it’s a product that adapts extremely well to unique circumstances.

Question:
What do you like best about MEDUSA4, and what do your customers say about it?
Answer:
I find MEDUSA4 to be exceptionally user friendly. All my customers who are running on MEDUSA4 like the interface and the easy use of CADConvert, which converts DWG drawings to MEDUSA, as it does not lose detail, and there’s no need to tidy up the drawing after converting.

Question:
How do you see your business, and that of your customers, evolving?
Answer:
Offering personal attention to customers is an important differentiator for our business, and we will continue to play on that strength. Having an in-depth working knowledge of MEDUSA from the other side of the desk is extremely helpful too, and my customers respect that. As for the future, we are still a small company, and are currently learning more about CSG’s entire product range, so that we can expand the business and offer all our present and future clients a superior design experience.
