Intelligence in Interconnected Components - Assemble Complete Systems Fast

The MPDS4 Animation Definition Dialog allows users to define and save animation sequences, illustrating mechanical handling processes in a plant or factory.
MPDS4 MECHANICAL HANDLING is a new discipline for placing intelligent interconnected components. It offers a series of configurable catalogs of mechanical handling components, which can be physically interconnected to form part of an industrial process. From conveyor belts to cranes to fork lift trucks, installation designers can now easily select, lay out, configure, visualise and add intelligence to process machinery in their plant. The module also supports the controlled creation of product specials.

MPDS4 MECHANICAL HANDLING offers mechanical installation professionals the unique benefits that have long been enjoyed by process plant engineers: the ability to build a complete installation electronically, with all services, prior to actual construction. Accurate Bill of Materials (BOM), drawings, rule checking and interference checking are supplied as standard.

Selecting and Modifying Components
Users can choose components from the mechanical handling catalogs supplied, including:
• Belt conveyors and overhead conveyors
• Steel & mesh containers
• Fork lift trucks
• Gantry cranes
• Gantry cranes
• Pallet racking frames and beams
• Radial cranes
• Robots
The Mechanical Handling Dialog allows users to
• search the catalog for suitable components
• display component previews
• change load points, load options, angles and offsets
• modify component option properties, e.g. conveyor leg lengths, belt material, drive motor types
• Create special dimensions of components as allowed by the system adminstrator

The auto load option allows users to draw the routing for connected equipment, define auto load options (such as bends), then auto load a whole series of connected components.
Loading Components
Users can determine whether a component is loaded without connections (e.g. to start a new series of connected equipment); whether it is to be inserted at a specific point; or whether it is auto-loaded. Auto loading allows connection to an existing component along a tail describing the routing of a line of components with their own connection logic, e.g. lengths of conveyor, where the system intelligently works out connections.

Angle and CP offset options for interactive routing allow users to
add an angular rotation about the X connection point axis relative to the previous component
add an offset (in Z) between current connection point when loaded and previous connection point

The Mechanical Handling Dialog gives users access to catalog components and properties, with the ability to change component parameters and properties as desired.
Component Animation
MPDS4 allows users to animate components in order to provide visualisations to clients. These can illustrate, for example, how much space is required for moving components or parts of components. The Animation Definition Dialog allows users to create, save, modify and add to animations, e.g. the lifting of goods by crane from conveyors to containers.

Features and Benefits
Shorten design times, become more competitive in pre-sales scenarios and increase speed to market
• Dynamically create fast, professional and intelligent 3D layouts of mechanical handling components by selecting, modifying and animating existing catalog components
• Highlight layout challenges and equipment requirements early in the design process
• Auto-adjust legs of components placed on uneven floors (modelled with the optional Digital Terrain Modeller)
• Create specials at will, then automatically create parametric production drawings
Gain data for efficient downstream process handling - access Microsoft® Excel spreadsheets from the Mechanical Handling Tool Tray to display:
• Current component parts lists :
• Current catalog lists
Gain flexibility and customisability - easily create new catalogs and new components for existing catalogs

3D Plant Design & Factory Layout Software: MPDS4

The MPDS4 plant design system is a database-driven suite of powerful, multi-user plant engineering applications, providing the complete solution for every plant design or factory layout challenge. The system allows Engineering, Procurement & Construction companies (EPCs) and Owner/Operators to plan and design complete process lines, plants or factories regardless of size. Its open architecture means the software is easily integrated into existing system infrastructures for data continuity and consistency across PDM and ERP boundaries.

Plant designers benefit from a system that addresses the entire project engineering process, providing the foundation for integrated planning, rules-based tender and conceptual design, walk-through presentations, detailed design, reporting and documentation.
