What's New in MEDUSA4 Version 3.0?We’ve been listening to customers all over the world. Version 3.0 is packed with many of the improvements and enhancements you requested, helping you design more quickly and flexibly than ever before. Some of the highlights are listed below:
New in MEDUSA4 2D Drafting
MEDUSA4 allows designers to use any scalable operating system font on all supported platforms, with Administrator control over allowable fonts. The new font support is fully integrated with CADConvert™, meaning that MEDUSA4 will display any TrueType fonts it recognises in imported third party drawings, or their nearest equivalent. The Unicode standard (with nearly 100,000 characters currently encoded) brings extensive multi-language and third party systems support. Users can now cut and paste text from their Web browser, use the text translator with any installed language, easily exchange data with other systems, and print with QtPlot. Design Objects Further Extended for Top-Down and Bottom-Up Design MEDUSA4’s Design Objects functionality (a powerful tool that turns 2D geometry into intelligent objects) has been further extended for easy top-down and bottom-up design. In a top-down scenario, users can now instance a component or assembly and turn into to a new definition; and in bottom-up design, select a component, assembly, definition or instance and replace it with a new instance, adding design speed and flexibility. New Parts Balloon Tool and Parts List Table MEDUSA4 version 3.0 allows users to define their own parts balloon input fields and styles, as complex as desired. The Parts Balloon Properties Dialog now allows users to select custom symbols, and default balloon templates can be created from individual balloons. Parts tables are automatically formatted from defaults, with the option to add individual table styles. New sorting options are also available. Improved 2D Text Handling and Grid Handling In response to customer requests for text handling enhancements, the auto-edit function on text selection has been removed. This now requires a double-click. In addition, the dashboard now displays text case formatting options (Sentence case, UPPER CASE, lower case etc.) Grid handling now offers even more control, better on-sheet graphics, and colour control. Enhancements to Segment Dragging, Post-parameterisation and Gap Processing The latest version introduces a new option to drag a radius (tangent point or centre point) and includes a tangent point/centre point arc switching tool. Post Parametric Call Backs (PPCBs) now offer a new 2D Boolean command after parameterisation (for example to add two profiles together). Dimension gap processing has also been further extended. New in MEDUSA4 ADVANCEDSMART Edit™ – Gets Even Smarter! CAD Schroer’s own “parametrics on demand” technology, which allows users to quickly edit geometry associatively without spending time creating constraints, now has even better support for non-orthogonal geometry, allowing designers to work with geometry not aligned with major axes. Version 3.0 also introduces associative circle placement and editing - allowing designers to make quick adjustments to geometry evenly aligned around a pitch circle diameter (PCD) -, as well as symmetrical dimensioning (dimension and centre line symmetry is now recognised automatically). New in MEDUSA4 3D3D Import and Export: STEP, IGES and Google Earth (COLLADA™- export only) Brand new technology in MEDUSA4 3D means the latest in CAD interoperability. The system now offers intelligent import of STEP and IGES files, with full facet control, object removal based on minimum size, and the ability to box objects at detail levels. The prototype has already been in use at some customer sites, with impressive results. New in version 3 is the option to export a MEDUSA4 model file to a set of IGES faces. The process is fast, simple and accurate and allows direct import into all major 3D part modelling systems. Users can also export to Google Earth’s COLLADA format, a new, fast-growing 3D format used to share models via the Google Earth community. User Interface Improvements The 3D user interface now offers a new dashboard with easy property selection for most 3D elements. Sheets can be visually simplified by assigning the on-sheet text controls (on link lines, in view boxes and on sheet level) as attributes. Extra 3D interactive viewer controls, with slides for rotation, and name display, have also been introduced. New in Other MEDUSA4 Add-On PackagesMEDUSA4 P&ID Catalog Tool Enhancements The P&ID module has seen a number of usability enhancements, with a new graphical tool for building catalogues. The module is available for MEDUSA4 users, with an optional connection to the MEDUSA4 PLANT DESIGN SYSTEM (MPDS4). MEDParts™ Search and Replace Enhancements The MEDParts standard CAD parts library now allows users to identify and replace parts on the sheet. MEDLink™ Support for Windchill PDMLink™ 8 New in MPDS4Improved Dynamic Graphics Performance – Transparency, Sectioning, Colour A new graphics implementation in MPDS4 gives users more speed and an increasing number of features, set to expand even further in upcoming releases. Users can now change the transparency of instances of catalogue components, setting it on the fly, or coding it into drawing routines. Dynamic sectioning quickly provides views of selected sections of a plant or installation. Users will also notice smoother rotate, pan and zoom action. New Model Load Dialog for 3D Import (STEP/IGES/STL) MPDS4 version 3.0 features a new model load dialog for importing STEP/IGES and STL files. New Assembly Structure Tab This new tab in the structure tree, which automatically displays components selected on the sheet, allows designers to create and manage large assemblies with ease, and edit structure via drag and drop. Usability Improvements: Moving, Rotating, Copying, Selecting and Iterator Parameters A new input dashboard makes use of the tail for moving, rotating and copying optional. New dashboard tools have been created for many common tasks, including move and rotate for all “inline components” connected with zero-length links. An extension of the general select tool allows users to select logically connected components. In addition, the improved iterator option dialog now offers combo boxes for iterator parameters, automatic graphical selection for subsystems and an optional auto-highlight function. New in MPDS4 Add-On PackagesMPDS4 FACTORY LAYOUT™ - Further Usability Enhancements This 2D to 3D module for rapid installation design has seen a number of enhancements, including the ability to add holes (windows) in walls, to position 3D steelwork from 2D, and to use 2D text decoration continually visible in 3D. Dashboard improvements include combo boxes for all values. |
