What's New in MPDS4 and MEDUSA4 Version 4.0 and 4.01?


Many of the new tools and enhancements introduced in version 4.0 of MEDUSA4 and MPDS4 focus on client collaboration, data integration, and even quicker design editing and visualisation. New functionality supports the entire design process from tender design to project delivery, with special emphasis on efficient and visually impressive pre-sales configuration.

New in MPDS4


New Data Import and Comparison Tool
A new Data Comparison Tool allows users to compare tables of external data (from a database accessed through JDBC or a CSV file) with data in the MPDS4 database or on a MEDUSA4 2D sheet. Users can, for example, compare requirements or parts lists with an existing layout, in order to identify any missing components. Data can also be saved, filtered or selected for auto-load and placement of new elements into the current sheet.

Enhanced Drawing and Equipment Management
MPDS4 now provides even better control over drawing and model data, with tools for reporting the status of a model or sheet, and status changes of any instances since the last time a model was generated. Users can create callbacks to be notified whenever a model or drawing is created, updated or deleted. Administrators can restrict the loading or creation/saving of equipment model and related files to certain directories.

New Texture Tool
The new Texture Tool in MPDS4 is ideal for adding texture to objects, e.g. for adding company signs, notices or corporate logo boards to 3D installations. Users can choose from pre-defined objects, applying freely definable textures.

New MPDS4 REVIEW Tool for Easy Model Review by Clients
The new MPDS4 REVIEW tool provides an easy way to share models and communicate with customers and suppliers who do not have MPDS4 installed. It allows users to easily interact with your MEDUSA4 3D or MPDS4 models, conducting plant and scenery walk-throughs or inspecting designs in detail. Models are delivered by MPDS4 in a very compact format for fast viewing, and can be e-mailed to clients for daily design reviews or taken on-site by Project Managers.

MPDS4 FACTORY LAYOUT™ - Intelligent Architectural Components
MPDS4 FACTORY LAYOUT now includes new intelligent architectural component functionality, which allows users to easily integrate standard architectural elements, such as doors, walls and windows, into their designs. Increase the speed with which you create and edit layouts by using these intelligent elements, with detailed control over their behaviour. When moving a wall, for example, adjacent rooms and walls are updated automatically. Benefit from intelligent interaction between walls and other components, especially in complex layouts

MPDS4 PIPING DESIGN™ - New Multi-Replace Tool
The new multi-replace tool in the MPDS4 PIPING DESIGN module allows users to automatically and intelligently change a whole series of connected components simultaneously, based on the change to any one component.

MPDS4 PIPING DESIGN™ - New Automatic Pipe Fall Tool
The new Pipe Fall Tool is ideal for creating the natural pipe falls for effluent pipes, for example. It automatically analyses a pipe’s fall and allows users to add a fall to a selected pipe run based on the angle, percentage or ratio entered.

New in MEDUSA4 2D Drafting


Smart Drafting Tool – Explicit Value Option
In response to customer requests, the Smart Drafting tool (now also included in the MEDUSA4 PLUS package) has been enhanced so that users can now enter explicit values for length, angle or radius, making its use even more efficient. Keyboard accelerators are also provided.

SMART Edit – Visual Display of Relationships Between Elements
The SMART Edit (“parametrics on demand”) tool now colour-codes the defining and dependent relationships between elements. This means that users now get a visual pointer as to how a change will affect their geometry, e.g. whether changing the radius of an arc in tangency with another arc will cause its centre to move or the other arc’s tangential arc and line to move.

Support for URLs in Drawings
Users can now add a URL to a text element in their drawing, creating clickable links to external documents or sites, including, for example, corresponding detail drawings or model files, relevant ISO standards, or zip files with released designs. Links in TrueType text persist in any PDF documents created with QTPlot from the drawing, as well as in any DXF/DWG files created or imported with CADConvert.

Dimensioning Enhancements
To ensure support for the latest ISO dimensioning standard (and in preparation for the EN standard update) there have been a number of enhancements in relation to creating and editing dimensions, including improved control over text and scalability.

CADConvert - Support for AutoCAD® 2010 DWG/DXF format
From MEDUSA4 version 4.01 CADConvert offers full support for the AutoCAD DWG/DXF format up to AutoCAD 2010.

3D Interfaces – Significant Enhancements
The performance and scope of the 3D interfaces has been greatly enhanced, with significantly quicker export to STEP, IGES and 3D DXF, and smaller file sizes for the exported models.

New Teamcenter® Interface
A new interface to Siemens PLM Software’s Teamcenter® data management product is now available.

MEDUSA4 PARAMETRICS™ - Automatically Generated Parametric Variable Dialog
Users of the Parametrics module can now define and add a description to different variables stored as defaults in a parametric definition sheet. This automatically generates a user-friendly input and value validation dialog for downstream use. In order to make it easy for users to identify the parametric component, a link to an image or a macro can be inserted, which is displayed at the top of the Parametric Variable Dialog.

MEDInfo™ Data Management – UI and Connectivity Enhancements
The MEDUSA4 MEDInfo information and document management module now benefits from a number of user interface enhancements and external database connectivity options.

MEDPro™ - Pro/ENGINEER® Wildfire 5 Support
From MEDUSA4 version 4.01 The MEDPro Pro/ENGINEER integration supports Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.

Changes in Platforms Supported


MEDUSA4 Support for Windows® 7 Professional
Windows 7 Professional is supported from MEDUSA4 version 4.01.

MEDUSA4 Support for Windows® 2000 Ends
As previously announced, Microsoft® has dropped its support for Windows 2000. The platform is therefore no longer supported with this release.

MEDUSA4 Support for Linux® Red Hat Enterprise Version 5 WS
From version 4.01, MEDUSA4 and those add-on applications available on Linux now support Linux Red Hat Enterprise Version 5 WS
